A home altar, or prayer altar, or prayer corner, is a small place you set apart in your house to meet with God every day. It can be a shelf, a side table, a windowsill, or a tray you carry from room to room. It does not need to be large or expensive. What it needs is to be somewhere you pass daily, and to actually get used.
These guides cover both traditions: the Catholic home altar with its crucifix, sacred images, and liturgical seasons, and the Protestant prayer altar and family altar built around the Bible, prayer, and worship. Plus ideas for the smallest apartments, dorms, and rentals.
